DOM to DOOM

I am usually pompous of this intrusive behavior. And, this time I am the victim. My imaginary friend used to bombard me to rid of this craving for illegitimate copies of stuff, English movies in particular. But, I had been a bad boy lately and torrents are a so good ally, you could download almost everything nice from the Internet.

There's been a buzz about the movie 'Watchmen' and I just could not get my mind off it especially when I watched its thriller. Probably a nice story set with superb special effect in every corner of its scene, I could not just get hold of the torrent tool I usually use to grab of the dirty things I could get from the Internet when I needed one.

Alas! Here's one link I could use. Sooweet!  I got the 'supposedly' cool movie just the morning of the other day. I thought it went well when after the film banner ran, it prompted me to grab of the DOM player. So I did grab the software - downloaded and installed it.

That is before I've read some forums referring to it as a malware or you could say - a malicious software. I've noticed it added to the anomalies lurking in my system and regretted installing it.

DOM player a is a malware affecting mainly P2P software users. The hidden concept is quite simple, you download what you think is the last episode of your favorite TV series or movie, which in this case is a fake (aXXo rips ). Once the download completed an that you try to watch your movie, you’ll be prompted by a message asking you to go on Domplayer.com to download a free player.

On the site you’ll surely download the free player given that it is a totally free of charge and that it contains no malware or spyware. Once installed and that the process is active, you will be encourage to call (with your mobile) on an overcharged phone number to have the software full version.

The price of this communication will be worth the price you’ll pay to buy an original version of your favorite movie. Oh boy! Gone are the days when I, so could afford an original release.

Conclusion: Don’t download DOM player, it is a malware.

Hi James, how's everything doing? I did came across this DOM player that you have mentioned on your blog and yes it is a good for nothing malware(malwares doesn't have anything good to offer... duh!) and out of curiosity did download this one before just only to satisfy my insatiable appetite for watching those TV series(I am a big fan of Heroes and Prison Break). Instead of getting the benefit of it, I ended up with reformatting my hard drive since it made my system crawl a lot more slower than a stinking snail. As the good old saying goes: "Nasa huli ang pagsisi." I would rather say, "Sa pagkatagal-tagal ng download, sa reformat din ang tuloy!" I wish I have known better...
