Christmas Gift Wrappings

This post is for Ms. Theta, my manita.

Okay! I am not that good at gift wrappings but I did anyway. Well, my father helped me so that it becomes more like an industrial package now. See the picture. :-) There's something soft inside I can not tell you - it's classified until ten PM this evening.

The bare skin shown off. The industrial adhesives taped around the box makes it looks scary. It looks like a bomb bare skin so we need a fancy Christmas wrapper to make it nice. And it's bulging too. Don't be fooled. The angle taken for this picture just makes it looks like it's big but it's not.

Funny thing is, there aren't any grocery stores selling Christmas gift wrappers so I opt to use the Birthday gift paper instead. If there's a list of anything 'hard to buy' in Dubai. A Christmas gift wrapper should qualify to the list. LOL! Not one grocery store is selling the stuff - Shuhada! Mosquel Kabir!

Well, I am not that good at gift wrappings but, Voila! Done in less than an hour. LOL! Company party is in two hours. What's inside? That is for Ms. Theta to find out. I hope she'll like what's inside more than what she can see here.

My Coming Christmas Musing

Oh well, Christmas is fast approaching. For an OFW, the season of emphasized loneliness. The season is like a day when the clouds are cleared to expose a sky of a clandestine blue. It's just you in the constellation of loneliness. This is what I feel and been expecting unless the season is feasted with my two small daughters and my wife; and among family members - back home.

It's sometimes sickening because there have been too many discussions about the coming season - it's the most talked about topic in this time of the month. With all these days' fears and tribulations of both economic and socio political. Worsened by recession resulting to rampant lay-offs. There'd be not much food in the table during the Christmas season.

And as far as I want to speak something out of the expected Christmas spirit, it weakens me. But, there is an urging willingness to discover the strength to be out of the blue; appreciate the warmth of others who has probably thought of this same thought; to be content and be  able to count the blessings received during our days.

Reason to Celebrate

And yet, one question was asked, "why bother celebrate Christmas? If it be for the sake of celebrating it; If it be for getting indulged; to get drunk and passed out. For what purpose? what would that say to your character?". I saw truth brought about by the question. One need not be obliged to be influenced by the occasion because the occasion is all about gesture of faith. You celebrate, because you glorify your Christ, because you believe in Him.

I hope we'll feel that food on our table on that very Christmas evening be not complete without the warm or thought of our family, friends and strangers alike. Whose hearts are to be touched by that same Lord whom we must celebrate this season with. That other than that, it would be pure vanity and hypocrisy. Then of course, if you were not a Christians or just playing to be one, what exactly are we celebrating over Christmas? We would be like a splinter of flame cast away from the very fire that burns our spirit on that season.

Somehow its true, Christmas has transformed. Christmas has become a commercial holiday while Jesus said, "Take everything you have and give it to the poor", the modern Christmas is not very Christian anymore. Regardless, one has to find a way to make it true and fruitful within us these day forward throughout out lives.

Chowking! Indulge My Appetite

Yeah! Here's another every common topic in town. And, every one eats Chow-king.

One of my favorite topic to talk about when I'm hungry is - food! What else should I be musing about? My mind's probably loose right now. {--,}  I'm hungry and my ordered food from Chow-king Restaurant has not arrived yet.

Calling the restaurant has been the most convenient yet costly way of bringing down your lunch to the office. Well, not that costly but you loss the point of working your ass hard to save a penny to send back home. The people on the other lines are extremely friendly too. Well, you'll know by the tone of their voice they had a bad day but what the heck, it's always a good thing to cheer up people - even if it begins from a customer. Well, I'm a testified believer that when a customer is happy he will hail the people who served him and he will even write a blog entry about them. Hehehe.

The one in the picture is a beef mushroom wanton noodle - my lunch today! Good when it's served warm and a little bit of chili curry dipped with a little bit of soy sauce. Chow-king foods are known to have served lacking a little bit of salt because not every one likes it salty of course. Each person has a distinct taste when it comes to salty tasting food. This thing cost twenty-one Dirhams per order which will of course save you plenty as much as thirty-four dollars a week, one hundred thirty six dollars a month. Hehehe. Whew! the Chili sauce is hot!

Well, I am one of those people here in Dubai where one of the passion is food. And its not a good way to save a penny. It's always very cost saving bringing along with you everyday food for lunch - there will not be much dinner-left overs in your home. I find it very effective when I'm tight budget, no really, I mean when I'm really on tight budget, to be able to save money. It's usually a habit for a Filipino OFW like me to prepare food earlier at home to bring and consume the next day or two. Preparation is usually in the evening, and usually by bulk. One or two cups of plain rice in a topper-ware container for each day of the week.

Depending on your mood to share chit-chat around other office people, it will usually take you a total of thirty minutes to eat this thing which of course can be eaten in just a matter of sixty seconds. You don't have to drink water - it's in it already. Hehehe. You don't have to worry about the noodles entangling around your tonsils inside your mouth. You can have Maju pull that out that strings of noodles for you. Hehehe.

The thing comes good with Siopao too! Cost eight Dirhams ($2.18) in UAE.

The Wedding Crasher

An uninvited guest in your wedding day could be a bonus to the occasion.  How ever wacky the occasion is, which fits only, because anybody can't afford a boring one. I think it's a privilege both to you and you uninvited guests. It's your privilege to show goodwill and introduce your family. For them it's a privilege as well, besides the good meal, because they would know you and your family's nature. It is perhaps a test of character, on how good you are as a host and how warm you and your family could be on any occasion. Especially this one. But of course, bringing the occasion, I as the wedding crasher might as well be kind enough to offer a toast for the bride and groom - an abundant and blissful marriage, merry sex life and a good in-laws. :D

Regarding your uninvited guest, you might want to ask them to offer the couples a song or dance, that way, you'll get your revenge - in a way. You'll never know you might get lucky, you'll have party of people similar to the ones in these movie - Wedding Crashers or like the ones in this movie clip or this movie clip. :D

A good welcoming disposition to the occasion is the best gift anybody can give to the couples being wed.
