My Pay for an Unpaid Evening

Again we were slaves doing the thing we weren't supposed to do or might have done voluntarily do ourselves if we were only given the respect due to us. Mentality of slavery! Although I'm a strong believer that nothing pays more strongly than the respect of your people to do you more extra jobs. A little respect, surmountable motivation and even just a little penny compensate a huge hours of work will matter a lot.

P1080034Out of frustration, I among others in my office who were obliged to do work overtime without pay, was a bit desperate for a little recreation. Anything just to get it even with the eye that was probably been staring at us. Remotely, from a security camera the whole night from his comfortable abode.

It's unusual during this time of the night, this exotic and extremely lovely lady came walking towards my post. Two huge guys, probably a brother and a husband behind her back were scanning the displays to purchase. I immediately grabbed my camera and asked her politely if I could make a picture shot at her hand. She was undeniably beautiful and kind. The ones you see in those Hollywood movies about Persian women.

image The moment there I was hesitant whether to take a head-shot or not. Slightly lifted my camera up or down, twice or more. Then, I forgot I should have asked permission from the men as well. So I did. Two guys smiled and kindly exclaimed, 'Yes, of course, please do!'. So I did take a picture of her beautiful Henna tattoo - a poetry painted on the hands. And thus, the picture I've attached to this post.

I considered it a privilege of the evening. My pay for an unpaid evening.

Old Photos from the Old Family Chest (Part 2)

KARAAN9I don't like it when old photos depict vague untold stories. Un-captioned. I would appreciate to receive any comments from any of my cousins out there regarding this photo. The family lineage could be from that of the Pastorals, Ceniza, Guňez or Fontanosa - I just really don't know.

I'm quite puzzled because nobody in the house recognized the persons wed in this photo either. Nevertheless, I think the couple had good and bad times in their lives. I only wish they had been strong and went through the hard times.

According to my grandmother, this photo was taken sometime during the 1930s. And I forgot to take down notes of everything she told me. There have been lots of photos discussed that day I guess - that's why.

I was actually going to collect old family photos to scanning, restoration and archiving to CD but never got the resources when I was still back home. The materials however original and better always tears-out and aged. When you put them into CD it can be viewed multiple times over the ages. Especially when published such as this one. :-)

Glimpses

(Glimpse; JCM;
Oil on Canvas; 12/22/1999)

One of the glimpses I had to dump in here is when I happened to stumble upon a sight, a smile so young, alluring and beautiful like the face that owns it. It's has become an emotional malady ever since. Wanting to overcome the predicament that has grown in me those years, I agreed to dump madness into the canvass and go on with the life that is somewhat obscure to me at that time.

Nowadays, I just stare at it with familiar sadness; like a writer that has decided not to finish a book; like an unfinished tale that was supposed to be said to children; or a never confirmed love story lost on a war.

This smile will never be known to anyone - except me.  Deep inside me, because the many best blessings that life has to offer had already happened to me afterwards from that life of desperation. My regret was that - it was true love, and never did got the chance of telling it to the owner of that ever lingering smile.

The Girl From Malate

Well, just some wildfires that needs retelling. I needed to dump this in here. It may had been beautiful during those times, but it was no excuse to the very life I was heading. People in our lives, they just passed by, one after another. So I convinced myself I was destined for another one better.

The Girl From Malate
(12/05/2002)

Lovely and beautiful,
this girl from Malate goes walking,
And when she passes,
everyone's eyes goes looking

So when the music starts to play,
my foolish heart he sings
With those hips and hands swaying,
there goes my mambo with her swinging

Oh those eyes so sweet and face so tender,
I watched her so madly, and sadly,
how can I tell her I love her
for I could not give my heart gladly.

So when each day she walks towards me
she passes by and I watch her,
She just looks straight ahead,
not at me - not inside me.

Lovely and beautiful,
This girl from Malate goes her way walking
As she passes by, I just smiled, and die

She doesn't see me,
She just wouldn't see inside me,
Oh how glad but sad am I to see her,
that she just can't.

God's Lovely Maid

Sen. Aquino composed a poem dedicated to his wife Corazon, “I Have Fallen in Love (With the Same Woman Three Times),” on the occasion of their 19th wedding anniversary in October 1973. It was later set to music by Jose Mari Chan. The poem partly ran:

    I have fallen in love
With the same woman three times
In a day spanning nineteen years
Of tearful joys and joyful tears.

I loved her first when she was young
    Enchanting and vibrant, eternally new
She was brilliant, fragrant and cool as the morning dew
I fell in love with her the second time

When first she bore her child and mine
She’s always by my side, the source of my strength
    Helping to turn the tide…
I fell in love again with the same woman the third time

Looming from the battle her courage will never fade.
Amidst the hardships she has remained
    Undaunted and unafraid
She is calm and composed. She is God’s lovely maid.
